TODAY IS WORLD HEPATITIS DAY. I want to say 'Goodnight, sleep tight, until tomorrow, when I will see you again' to 2 loved ones so dear to me (tears dropping) who died of the complications of Hepatitis B infection.
Hepatitis B is a viral infection 100 times more infectious than HIV. It is contracted in just the same ways as HIV infection. It is usually asymptomatic. Signs only begin to manifest when it has killed the liver(liver cirrhosis).
Like HIV, Hepatitis B has no cure. ...But the good news is, unlike HIV, Hepatitis B has a vaccine; which means, uninfected persons can get immunized against the infection. Immunization can always be obtained FREE OF CHARGE at Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
The only way to know your Hepatitis B status is to get tested in a Primary Health Centre, Clinic, Hospital or Laboratory. Hepatitis B and C blood tests will be done today FREE OF CHARGE in all tertiary health institutions in Nigeria today during the lectures to mark the day. Go and get tested for FREE! Stay healthy, wealthy and happy!
